The Nasdaq sank 2% on Friday as Netflix dropped nearly 11% post-earnings and Club stock Nvidia fell 10%, entering bear market territory but still up more than 50% in 2024. Following a much stronger-than-expected March retail sales report last month, fresh economic data and six Club stock earnings will take center stage in the week ahead. While lower rates may help stock multiples, that is not a sustainable path to higher equity prices over time. Earnings : The latest quarterly reporting season is starting to ramp into high gear with six Club names set to report next week. Abbott Laboratories Why we own it : Abbott is a high-quality medtech company growing at a fast clip. As Abbott's organic sales growth continues to shine, the market will realize both concerns are overblown. We also love that EPS results on Tuesday came in above the range management had forecasted — a classic case of under-promising and over-delivering. ABT YTD mountain Abbott Laboratories YTD Organic growth was very strong, up nearly 11%, marking the fifth consecutive quarter of double-digit increases. In diagnostics, where we see the impact of the decline in Covid testing sales, organic sales increased 5.4% year over year.

Unlucky for some perhaps, but a 13th today would make it the longest winning streak for the Dow since 1987. Meta Platforms (META.O) is up next after Wednesday's closing bell and its share rose 2%. Wells Fargo (WFC.N), meantime, climbed 2.8% after the bank's board authorized a new $30 billion share buyback program. The Fed decision comes in the wake of another set of forecast-beating U.S. consumer confidence readings for July. June 2 (Reuters) - Illumina Inc (ILMN.O) said on Friday it had elected two new independent board members, including Hologic Inc (HOLX.O) CEO Stephen MacMillan as the non-executive chairperson, with immediate effect. The genetic sequencing equipment maker also appointed Edwards Lifesciences (EW.N) Chief Financial Officer Scott B. Ullem to the board, the company said in a statement. These appointments follow activist investor Carl Icahn mustering enough shareholder support last month to oust Illumina's board chair John Thompson and install one of his board nominees, Andrew Teno. However, Illumina CEO Francis deSouza survived a challenge to his board seat from Icahn. AI can be placed under the broad category of disruptive technology, which refers to innovations that change consumers' habits and displace old markets. Then, you have public cloud infrastructure that connects it all together, such as Amazon Web Services or the Google Compute Engine which provides infrastructure as a service (IaaS). For this reason, instead of taking the approach of creating something as narrow as an AI ETF, the ETF is focused on anything that signals disruption to an entire industry and changes the status quo. They have a "tremendous" market share in AI applications, and companies are hungry for their products, he noted. Analog Devices (ADI) provides technology that can translate atmospheric information into digital data to mean something to the hardware.
Apple, Google, Cisco, Intel Corp (INTC.O) and Edwards Lifesciences Corp (EW.N) sued the PTO in the California federal court in 2020 over the rule. They argued it undermined the role inter partes review plays in "protecting a strong patent system" and violated federal law. Companies including Tesla, Honda, Comcast and Dell filed briefs at the Federal Circuit in support of the plaintiffs. The California court dismissed the case in 2021, citing U.S. Supreme Court rulings that Patent Trial and Appeal Board decisions on whether to review inter partes review petitions cannot be appealed. The case is Apple Inc v. Vidal, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, No.

Jim Cramer recommends these 5 healthcare stocks in 2023
  + stars: | 2022-12-15 | by ( Krystal Hur | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +1 min
CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday presented investors with a roster of healthcare stocks that should be on their shopping lists for next year. "Wall Street likes profitable companies with consistent results, nice dividends and reasonably-valued stocks," he said, adding, "The biggest [healthcare] winners were boring, consistent operators with cheap stocks." Cramer said that healthcare stocks have stayed relatively steady this year because they tend to be recession-resistant stocks – in other words, they perform well regardless of the state of the economy. UnitedHealth GroupCramer said that he likes the "best-of-breed" managed healthcare stock. Edwards LifesciencesCramer says he likes the stock because the company's underlying business has been strong, despite the stock being down over 43% for the year.
The hedge fund community has bought several stocks with conviction during this year's market turmoil, and those same names could outperform going forward, according to Goldman Sachs. Goldman then identified a number of Russell 1000 stocks with the largest increase in number of hedge fund owners during the third quarter — so-called "rising stars." During the last 20 years, these rising hedge fund stars have typically gone on to outperform sector peers during the quarters following their rise in popularity, Goldman said. UnitedHealth stands on top of the list, with 31 hedge funds adding the stock last quarter. Other top picks among hedge funds included Signify Health , Edwards Lifesciences and TransUnion .
